The Call For Self-Purification
In his “Letter from Birmingham Jail”, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. notes that all nonviolent campaigns have four basic steps:
collecting facts to determine if there’s injustice
In 2016, Repairers of the Breach traveled to over 22 states and heard from impacted persons across the country about injustices in their lives and the need to enlist in the fight against systemic racism, poverty, child poverty, extremism, denial of healthcare, voter suppression, environmental injustice, xenophobia, unchecked militarism, discrimination towards LGBTQ people, and our current moment in history.
Over 10,000 moral leaders, including imams, Catholic sisters, pastors, and rabbis, have signed on to an open letter requesting a meeting with Donald Trump at a House of Worship to discuss a moral public policy agenda for the nation. The Trump administration has not responded to the request to meet with diverse moral leaders in a house of worship. At the same time there are extreme and immoral policies being proposed in the state capitols, by Congress, and by the Trump administration. Therefore, our goal is to enter into a time of self-purification as moral activists preparing for the next steps of moral resistance and nonviolent direct action. This is a time of consecration for the nation so that we may fortify ourselves for sustained long-term activism.
A Day of Self-Purification for #MoralResistance
Re-enlist yourself in a time of inauguration, by
Engaging on social media and
Singing and reading the songs of resistance, while seeking
Inspiration from moral and legal documents. Refuse the
Status quo and normalization through deep analysis of this time.
Tune your mind in remembrance of "Freedom's Eve', and the truth of 'Let
America Be America Again' that calls us to demand a
New Poor People's Campaign and to
Consecrate this moment, in part, by deeply knowing who we are as we
Envelop ourselves in the protection of social justice community prayer.

Meditative Practices for Self-Purification
Please use the following readings, videos, and music as meditative practices at the prescribed times listed below.
Noon to 12:30 pm EST
Movements have rhythms - pulses that are set by its messages, methodologies, and music. With its power to galvanize, inspire, and empower, music is a vital part of the rhythm; it is the personality of a movement! The melodic word has always been a central part of prophetic outcry against injustice. Prophets and warriors, captive and freed, all sang songs that sustained their moral pulse. Today, we are experiencing an arrhythmic pulse in our democracy. And so, once again, we turn to the songs not only of the prophets and ancestors but also to the songs of "generation now." Together, we lift our united voices to refresh, uplift, and gird ourselves (and each other) for the struggles ahead. We shall sing and dance FORWARD, proclaiming through our melodies and lyrics that "standing down is not an option"!
